I can&#8217;t tell you how often I am telling women to make themselves a priority. I think the reason they are not is that they don&#8217;t have the confidence it takes. They don&#8217;t believe in themselves. And I keep telling them that they do deserve it. That they are worthy.</p>

<p>The way you feel on the inside is mirrored by your facial expression and posture. The way you feel about yourself shows in the way you act and speak. </p>
<h3>Motivation</h3>
<p>What does this have to do with fitness, you wonder. Well, in order to change the outside of your body, you have to change the inside first. </p>
<p>You need to become aware of the reason you want to change and also find out what has kept you from changing in the past. Awareness is the first step. </p>
<p>You are important, you are worth it, and you deserve to be your best. It&#8217;s so easy to feel that way about someone else, like your children for example, but for some reason it is difficult for most people to think like that about themselves. </p>
<p>The fact is, however, that it is true. And if you feel like your children deserve the best, that means that you have to be the best you can be. Makes sense? </p>
<p>And now hold on to that belief. Don&#8217;t just read it and forget it. Think about it and remind yourself every day. This will motivate you. </p>
<h3>Obstacles</h3>
<p>Change takes energy; not changing is easy. I think that&#8217;s one of the reasons we give up on our fitness goals so quickly. It&#8217;s easier. The problem is, that it is only easier in the moment. In the future, when you get sick and have to take lots of prescription medication, you will realize that good nutrition and exercise are the easy part. </p>
<p>You might feel like you don&#8217;t have the energy to work out. The secret is, that energy comes from exercising. Get started, get the ball rolling, and before you know it will keep on rolling almost all by itself. </p>
<p>Time &#8211; Time is like money. We always have enough time and money for what is really important to us. Remember what I said earlier? You are important! You can make the time to exercise, just start with 10 &#8211; 15 minutes a day. </p>
<p>Share your goals with friends or family members. Engage them in your physical activities. Teach them what you are learning about nutrition. Try to make it fun. Before you know it, you will be setting an example for everyone. </p>
<h3>The New You</h3>
<p>So there she is, the new you. How do you feel? You now love and respect yourself. You feel healthy and full of vitality. Your entire family seems to be not only healthier, but also happier. You have common goals. You are walking and playing together. I think even the dog has lost some weight. </p>
<p>This really is how good life can be in 2010. Make yourself, your health, and your family a priority. You deserve it!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have to admit, I never feel as alive or inspired as I do when I get in touch with nature. So, on a beautiful day like this, I head out to the Berkeley Marina, which is only about 5 minutes from my home.  </p>
<p>The Marina has got it all &#8211; a large variety of wildlife, gorgeous skies, and water, aside from often amazing views of the City of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. What more could a girl ask for?  </p>
<p>Being a marina, it&#8217;s oftentimes a very windy place which attracts people of all ages to bring out their amazing kites. Every year in July there is the annual Berkeley Kite Festival which draws thousands of people and is quite amazing.  </p>

<p>So here&#8217;s that strange creature I sighted in the sky today. It&#8217;s rather confusing as it looks a bit like an octopus but it&#8217;s flying in the sky. I think it must be a new species. Do you have any idea? Have you ever seen something like this before? It looked rather friendly, so I wasn&#8217;t afraid in spite of its enormous size.  </p>
<p>I enjoyed a brisk walk and taking many pictures. Today was an absolutely perfect day including the sun, temperature, breeze, and sky.  </p>
<p>I hope to post some more experiences and especially pictures from the Berkeley Marina in the near future. In the meantime make sure you visit the Berkeley Marina when and if you are in the area!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve just had an incredibly intense week, spending most of my time in front of the computer. My eyes and neck are tired, and my brain feels a little foggy.</p>
<p>I am sure you&#8217;ve had a similarly tiring week, and maybe your weekend won&#8217;t look much different. Time to run errands, take the kids out to events, prepare for the upcoming holidays, and the list goes on.</p>
<p>We need to make time to de-stress in the interest of our health, weight control, and not to mention our sanity! One of the easiest ways, demanding the least amount of time, are simple breathing exercises.</p>

While you are there, check out <a href="http://drweil.com" title="Dr. Weil Web Site" target="_blank" rel="tag">Dr. Weil&#8217;s comprehensive web site</a> with lots of tools and articles on health and aging. I would also highly recommend <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1564559491?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=ecoachbcom-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=1564559491" title="Dr. Weil Audio" target="_blank" rel="tag">Dr. Weil&#8217;s audio CD collection on Breathing and Meditation</a>. It is the perfect tool if you are new to breathing and meditation exercises!</p>
<p>Another way to relax is to get away from everything, even if only for a few hours. If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area you will find many opportunities to do so. A very nice relaxing place that I&#8217;ve found only half an hour from my home is the <a href="http://retreatsonline.net/santasabina/" title="Santa Sabina Center" target="_blank" rel="tag">Santa Sabina Center</a> in San Rafael, CA. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14946454@N06/2040560004/" title="tranquil-garden"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/2277/2040560004_a4a997d583.jpg" style="margin: 5px 5px 0px 0px" alt="tranquil-garden" align="left" border="0" height="300" hspace="hspace" vspace="vspace" width="246" /></a>It is a very quiet, tranquil place surrounded by eucalyptus trees. The Santa Sabina center was founded in the Catholic monastic tradition but is open to people of all faiths and spiritualities. One week every month they are open for private visits by anyone interested in the peace and silence that I guarantee you will experience there.</p>
<p>If you are anywhere else in the world, there are so many places to get away to &#8211; parks and lawns, a lonely tree, the beach, a creek, a cafe. Find what works best for you. Just getting out there and connecting with nature is one of the most incredible ways to relax, replenish, and breathe that I know of.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was reminded that Laughter IS the Best Medicine yesterday at a retreat I went to. One of the sessions at the retreat was &#8220;Laughter Yoga.&#8221; I must say, I haven&#8217;t laughed that long and hard in quite some time.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t even need to be amused to receive the benefits of laughter. Just do it! Your body does not know the difference.</p>
<p>Laughter increases the flow of oxygen to the heart and brain. It releases endorphins (for a happy feeling) and lowers the production of cortisol (the stress hormone) by as much as 75 percent. Now we all can use a dose of that!</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve read stories of people overcoming major illnesses with the help of laughter. They would watch funny movies, for example, for an hour a day. I&#8217;ve always made a point of watching a funny TV show in the evenings, rather than the news. Also, when I am lying in bed, I put a big smile on my face, so that my body knows all is well and that I am happy.</p>
<p>&#8220;Laughter Yoga&#8221; is practiced around the world. To learn more about it go to the <a href="http://www.laughteryoga.org/" target="_blank">Laughter Medicine</a> web site. Our wonderful teacher at the retreat yesterday was <a href="http://www.carmelacarlyle.com/" target="_blank">Carmela Carlyle</a>. She is a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader and also has a M.A. in Clinical Psychology. Carmela practices in Sonoma and Marin counties, California, where she leads &#8220;Laughter Yoga&#8221; sessions in the workplace, at professional conferences, spas and yoga studios, and eldercare communities. You can even <a href="http://www.carmelacarlyle.com/" target="_blank">invite her</a> to lead a session for your company&#8217;s or private holiday party.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s start laughing!</p>
<p>One of the exercises we did at the retreat that was really fun and simple was shaking someone&#8217;s hand and asking them for their name and then pretending that it was the funniest name you&#8217;ve ever heard! Got a friend? Try it out!</p>
